Cubs; WGN 9; 7:05 PM ET; vs. Nationals; Redding, 0-0, -.-- ERA, vs. Zambrano, 9-6, 4.20 ERA
We all know that Zambrano is so hot right now, and he is amazing with other catchers, and he is doing better right now than any year of his career. That is all jolly and well, but what is the story with Tim Redding, the former Astro, Padre and Yankee, who hasn't made a start at the major league level since 2005 at age 27? First off, in his first stint in the majors, he was 21-34 with a 5.26 ERA. That was from 2001-2005. Let's see if he's changed.
This is my investigative report for all of you on Tim Redding. In 2006, Tim was 12-10 with a 3.40 ERA in AAA, better than most ERAs in the MLB. This year in AAA, through 17 games, 16 starts, he is 9-5 with a 5.40 ERA. His splits will show us how he is doing. In night games, such as tonight, Tim is 6-4 with a 5.68 ERA in 13 starts, averaging about 5.1 innings a game. At home, where he is, he is 5-4 with a 6.29 ERA in 11 starts, averaging about 5 innings a game. With runners on his ERA is 11.23, and with RISP, his ERA is just below 20, at 19.71. Away, Big Z is 6-1 with a 3.25 ERA, averaging about 7 innings a game. At night he is 2-0 with a 2.63 ERA in 4 starts, averaging about 7 innings a game also. With RISP, his ERA is up to 11.25.
My last stat of the night is how Zamby is against the Nats. He is 1-0 with a 6.00 ERA. That start, though, was May 4th, when his ERA was 5.80, so I think it is unnfair to draw conclusions from that start. Have fun watching the game.
Thanks,
Ryan
